new look

I did a little Christmas shopping earlier this week and found this cute holiday pair. I thought they looked like 'me'. So here they are, waiting to take their place when all the decorations go up. I'm looking forward to taking my holiday look in a new direction this year. I'm not putting out the same things I've put out every year...I've found that some of those things I don't even like, I just put them out because I've always put them out. This year I'm going to be really strict about it. If I don't love it, it stays in the box. I'm excited...in a way that I haven't been about Christmas decorating in a while. I can't wait to see where I end up.

Meg- I have used that philosophy since we have had kids (four years ago, AND moved twice in that time).

Also, I take pictures of different areas decorated. I keep all of the stuff for each area in its own Rubbermaid tote, along with the picture. Saves time from year to year since I pretty much do the same things. I add in what I purchased for the season, and weed out what doesn't work for me anymore.

I can't wait to see more decorations!

Very cute. I love more "rustic" type of decor. Last year we did a big decor purge. If we didn't love it, it went to find a new home. Of course, this freed up some room for new stuff :0)

I had the same euphoric epiphany about Christmas decorating this year. Here's to the good - out with the bad!

Love,
Julie
p.s. - and those dolls are darling!

Hi, my name is bj and I've very glad to meet you. Cindy at My Romantic Home sent me over. She thought I would love your blog and I DO !! So glad I came. I haven't looked at it all yet..had to say that these little people are great! I feel just the same about my decorations. Just this morning, told hubby that nothing was going to be put out for Christmas except things I really loved. Like you, some of mine are used "just 'cause".
Come see me anytime....

Very cute.
That is what I am doing too.
I am not putting everything out unless I love it.
I have a lot of new stuff too.
Have fun,
Rosemary

Adorable! I like your idea of not putting out things just because you always have in the past. I found that started to gradually happen as my children got older ~ our decor "grew up" too :-}

I so agree with you about only using what you love. Otherwise, it all feels too cluttery and you can't wait to pack it back up!!

Love those little people!

I'll second that! I am on a mission to discard or donate anything that doesn't make me absolutely happy when I look at it. I have tons of Christmas things that I've kept just for the sake of keeping and honestly, life is just too short to hold on to stuff that doesn't make you smile :)

Hugs,
Dena
