my humble opinion

is that the old fisher price "little people" sets are 100x better than the new. Does this scene on the carpet bring back memories for you? Perhaps in your memory the carpet was a 1970s shag? My mom saved these sets from when we were small. I think the boys were surprised to find that these little people fit so easily into their seats. Unlike the chubby little people of today who have to be wedged in. My favorite little person from the days of old is a little brunette girl wearing blue with a white collar. You can't see her in the picture. I think she's driving a bus just off to the right.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (SQUEAL!) I TOTALLY AGREE! The Fisher Price corporation would make mountains and mountains of money if they would do reproductions, wouldn't they? That little playpen and nursery set was my favorite thing. It had a changing table and rocking horse and stroller. I loved it! I also loved the little blue girl with the white collar, except mine had a blonde bob. Thanks for sharing. I'm headed to ebay to swoon over Little People.

Oh my gosh! I had that castle (with the big pink dragon in the dungeon!)and that parking garage, as well as a dollhouse that was a A-frame chalet style house - what great toys!

The *old* Fisher Price people were SO much cooler than the new ones! I understand they were taken off the market because they are supposedly a choking hazard - they're just the right diameter to get lodged in a preschooler's windpipe. While that is certainly disturbing, I can honestly say that I never remember my brother, sister, friends or me sticking those little wooden people in our mouths! And those weird new chubby plastic Fisher Price people (why do even the parents look like children? it's creepy!)cannot compare to the old wooden people! Not even close!

Have to agree. My fav was the Sesame Street one. Until my best friend ate Mr Hooper. Then she trashed Oscar. I still have Big Bird somewhere....

I had the house and my brother had the garage! What a great gift you mom has given you and your children by saving your toys! Precious!

My mom kept all of our old Fisher Price too. They have the new stuff here, however they seem to play more with the old. Don't you feel the old had so much more character than the new?

I LOVED the little people when I was little. I had the gas station and the house.

oh, Stephanie, so true...whoever did that...were they really a choking hazard, or did fisher price hire a *new* creative team to design their things? Was it time to boost sales?

My objection to the new set, in addition to your accurate observation that the parents and kids are interchangeable, is that they are all holding things in their hands. I mean, does the little school girl really need to be holding a clipboard?

My mother kept a lot of stuff from my childhood, but, alas, not the Little People. How I long for my old A-frame! I got it when my brother was born, one of those sibling gifts, and I totally loved it. It was so cool, so '70s. I occassionally peep at them on Ebay, but I haven't had the courage to dish out the cash for one. Maybe someday!

We had all of these as well - I forgot about the castle until I just saw yours. My absolute fave was the school house with the bell on top that actually rang and the wall that opened up to be a chalk board! Good times...

i heard they were a choking hazard too, but why did that mean they had to recreate the wheel? couldn't they have just made the original people a little fatter? they do have a little people mcdonalds, so it makes sense:)

i was just on e-bay. i guess they tried that "fatter" thing already. not nearly as cute as the chokable ones.

My daughter had the house and my son played for hours upon hours with the garage. Up until last year they were in our storage room in the basement - then we did a purge and sold them at our yearly garage sale.

YES!! I also had the little A-Frame mountain house w/ the green shingled roof!!!

They are too bulky now and the kids grow out of them way too fast b/c they are too babyish now (which is a real shame because the older version grew up with the kids a lot better).

That scene looks just like my living room floor did last weekend. My grandmother saved all my old Fisher Price little people houses. We have that Sesame Street house and the school house and the house with the brown roof and the farm and the sesame street playground and the bus and (I'll stop! Sorry!). But yes, sigh. I agree with you that the old ones are way way way better than the new little people!
