weak day strategy

I like to think of myself as an optimist. Happy by nature, or at least, choosing to be happy by nature. Most days I'm easily encouraged, ready to see the silver lining in the clouds, ready to see the glass as half full.

But everyone has their days.

This has not been the greatest week. It hasn't been bad. It hasn't even been terrible. There have actually been a couple of really terrific moments. But, it's Thursday afternoon, almost Friday, and the week is rolling to completion soon. Looking back, it's just not been one of my favorites.

So this morning I did what I always do when I'm not feeling my best. I made myself look as good as possible. Make-up, hair, clothes, everything. Not fancy, but all steps taken, nothing skipped. Shower. No track suit. No pony tail. Mascara and lipstick. If you look good, you feel good. Right? It works for me.

Get ready - here's another obscure reference - remember the musical "Hello Dolly!"? We did that in high school, which is why I know it. There's a number in it called "Put on Your Sunday Clothes". I can still remember the lyrics:

Put on your Sunday clothes when you feel down and out
Strut down the street and have your picture took
Dressed like a dream your spirits seem to turn about
That Sunday shine is a certain sign
That you feel as fine as you look!
Beneath your parasol, the world is all a smile
That makes you feel brand new down to your toes
Get out your feathers
Your patent leathers
Your beads and buckles and bows
For there's no blue Monday in your Sunday clothes!

Maybe you already have your own strategy on how you get through the days that aren't your best. Your weak days. We all have them. But this is what works for me.

Oh, and the flowers really help, too.

Oh, girlfriend!

I know how you feel!! I put on real clothes and make-up on today just to go volunteer in my 1st grader's classroom. It DOES help!

I hope you're feeling better now :)

Come visit my blog. You'll see some big 80's hair. That should make you at LEAST appreciate your own beautiful curly hair :)

Kindest Regards,
Martha

"I made myself look as good as possible."

Those possibilities are endless.

I understand "weak" days, for sure!

My main strategy is just to make myself get out and get moving - work in the garden, go to Lowes, take the dogs for a walk, even if I just go grocery shopping. Having a task that gets me out of the house and walking around helps. Even if I'm not wearing lipstick and my hair's pulled back in a ponytail. ::grin::

awww, I'm sorry you're feeling kind of bla. My Mondays lately have been down right depressing. Then I get my first workout in and it snaps me back.
I find the transitions between seasons hard.

I think Mr.'s comment is about the sweetest thing I've read in a long time... and all you have to remember next time you're having "one of those weaks".

Just the best.

Oh same here. I feel better, when I take more time with 'me.' Like my hair. I'm growing it out from a very short cut {a la Dame Judi Dench}. And no growing-out is 'pretty.'

It's too long to just blow dry. But I hate to start doing anything with it, again. But I did. I took the {little really} time to curl it some, with curling iron. And I felt so much better!

We can't change a lot of things, in Real Life. But we can choose to do little thing... to help. :-)
