the sky that day

was a brilliant, crisp, blue, like it often is in early September. I remember it.There wasn't a cloud to be seen. The air was sweet and soft, like it is in late summer. It was the kind of day you took notice of as you stepped outside and walked down the street towards the train. You took notice of it then, and you are happy that you did. Happy now that you took the time to appreciate how beautiful it was, instead of letting your mind wander towards unimportant details. Happy now that you remember it so clearly, because you will always remember what happened that day. You will always remember the events of the day, and how you felt then, and how you feel now, and how you've changed from then to now. Because of that, you may not have remembered the day itself. What it looked like at the beginning. How it felt to be striding up the sidewalk. That beautiful sky.

Had it not been so lovely.

Today is a pretty day...but nothing in comparison with the blue of that sky...nothing. Remembering today, and every day.

I do remember that day as if it were yesterday and all of the emotions of that clear, beautiful day come rushing back.

I'm so glad that it's raining here today. That day was absolutely perfect. And every year since then it has been the same. Until today. I'm glad. A perfect day like that was should remain perfect. And unfortunately it didn't.

Love,
Julie

I remember thinking on my way to work that it was an absolutely perfect fall day!! How wrong I was. But I will always remember the brief beauty before the horror.

What a thought-full posting. I appreciate what you said and it made me think that although there is evil in this world, the goodness of the world seems to outlast it, and we should appreciate those blue skies and that peace every day we have it! (unfortunately we have gray, rainy skies today!)

It's pouring rain here on Long Island today, and I thought, 'how appropriate.' And then I remembered what an absolutely gorgeous day we were having when the horrible incidents occured. It was almost like...the calm before the storm.

I, too, remember what a BEAUTIFUL day it was that morning, before ...

I could see the smoke from the Pentagon out of my office window.

It's already the day after, but yesterday was beautiful here, only about 79, which is cool for this time of year.

I remember my daughter was just 5 and not at school that day (back then it was every other day) and I just told her to go outside and let me take a picture of her. She asked why and I told her someday she'd understand. I just wanted a picture of her to look back on and say "here I am on that fateful day." It's kinda weird, but I'm glad I did it.

Beautiful post...I remember I was in the kitchen with my, then 1 yr old) son. He was in his highchair eating a snack. And I sat there and cried as I watched the plane hit the second tower. Never forget it.
