more before and after

Isn't it funny how so many older homes have beautiful wood floors hidden beneath carpet? This was the case in our house. We have wood floors throughout our upstairs and in most of the downstairs (minus the kitchen and bath). When we moved in, my husband ripped up the carpet and we had the floors refinished.

To make this room come to life, we painted the walls a soft yellow color and painted all the woodwork white. I heard some objections at the time from a couple of people (one was the floor refinisher) about painting the woodwork, but we've never had any regrets. It was starting to get that orange look to it, and the fresh white is so much more cheerful and fitting for the space.

I'm not sure how often you use your television, but even if you just had it concealed when you are home alone, it would probably make you happy. (it makes me happy,LOL!)

Look for a cute fireplace screen to place in front of it. Or...if you have free time, and the skill, you could make it yourself from MDF and either paint and/or decoupage it. Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

Now this isn't what I would pick, but it gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Your house is lovely. I live in Mighigan, I'm assuming you are in the midwest as well.

Good Luck!

Hi, I know this is an old post but I love your place.. we have a big cottage and 5 kids at home so I know how hard it is to get time to work and get the look you want.

For the TV, if you have not gotten that taken care of yet. How about a Faux doll house?.. with doors that open on the front so when you watch all is good.. when not.. it's looks like a sweet doll house?

Beautiful! I'm not sure how I came across your blog, but you've done an amazing Job. I love the before & after pics. What's the color of the yellow you used in the family room?

Hi Carey,

This color is "You Are My Sunshine" by Benjamin Moore. I think it is the same consistent shade of yellow during all parts of the day, in all different lights, if you know what I mean. Thanks for your nice compliment, and for stopping by.

Your home is beautiful! I love the white sofas and I am wondering where you purchased them. I am looking for white slipcovered sofa without any luck.

I really like your living room makeover, it is beautiful. I was wondering where you purchased your white sofas? They look very comfy.

Inspired by Nature,

My sofas are from Arhaus. The pattern is actually white with a very fine beige pinstripe, you can't see it unless up close.

I hope that helps you. I have been very pleased with them since the slipcovers are removeable and wash very well. Good luck!
