lookee

Look what happened when I stopped complaining about the painter's progress! This is the half-done first coat, but it looks promising. Very clean, very crisp. Very good for a little cottage that is getting a facelift. I am so glad to be saying goodbye to the light orange chimney, folks. That was such a downer.

Our plan calls for black shutters on the sides of the house. I was trying to think of a way to add a little black to the front, and I think we've decided on getting an awning for over our front door. In addition to providing contrast from all the white, it will give doorstep guests some coverage, too.

I LOVE IT! I can't believe how fabulous it will look when it is finished. To bring in some black accents, you could always do it with your light fixtures and someday you could put up black window boxes beneath each bay window for perfect cottage flowers! I adore it... please keep posting the progress.

what a cute little cottage! Are you going to paint your front door black? I just painted mine black (my house is grey) and I love love love it. It makes me happy to come home every time.

You could do some sort of black lamp post or light fixture or something too... or a dark stone walkway maybe?

Love these suggestions, thanks for the thoughts! We do have new black light fixtures that are standing by, waiting to be installed. That will help so much. I've also ordered a nice big black mailbox and a wall address plaque...that should help, too.

We plan to paint the front door red. I like the idea of black, but I've just been wanting a red door for awhile. Some day we hope to do the black lamp post, too...

It's looking good! The black is going to look really nice against that nice clean white:)

Amazing! Isn't it funny what a difference a little paint can make. I want (and need) to paint my cottage in the spring, I played around with pictures and photoshop to get an idea for colors, still not sure yet. Would love to hear your thoughts. I have a photo posted on my blog.
