someone's always watching

Let's say you live near a Wonder-Hostess bakery outlet (and, oh yes, those delightful places do exist.) In addition to getting great deals on bread and muffins, you can pick up those sometimes hard to find grocery items, like Light Hostess Cupcakes (have you tried finding these at the grocer? Not an easy task.)

Let's say you live less than 2 miles away from the outlet. It'll be easy to justify in your mind that you can go back as often as necessary. So it's no big deal if the box of 8 cupcakes somehow shrinks to a box of 1 in less than 24 hours.

Let's say your kids didn't know the cupcakes were in the house and your husband doesn't eat junk food. No one can point a finger at you when the stash is diminished. Right?

Well, no, actually. My experience is that there's always someone who keeps an eye on you. Call it your subconscious. Call it your inner voice. Call it the last, lone cupcake in the fridge. Someone will be there, calling you out on what you did. Making you think twice about going back for more.

LIGHT cupcakes? When did God and all that is holy invent these!?!?! Can you post the nutritional information? I actually have a Hostess/Wonder outlet near me...but I've never gone in for fear that my backside would turn into a vacuum and absorb everything.

I have never had a passion for these packaged treats (I.m more of a salty snack girl), but my American friend, Krissy (from Boston) stops as soon as she hits the border for her own box of Funny Bones to enjoy on the long road trip. It is her guilty pleasure!

iloveupstate - I'm not sure about the nutritional information (the box was picked up with the recycling today.) But I remember the packaging saying something like "85% less fat than regular cupcakes". I think the calories were about 100 per cupcake? I'll have to get back to you if (when) I buy them again.

Oh I love those hostess cupcakes. I can't even have the low fat ones on my low carb diet! It was nice just looking at them though. I could almost smell it!

Ooh, ooh! I live by a Hostess outlet--never been in, but I've been really tempted. I'm so going now!

Nabisco or Keebler or one of those companies now makes a "100 calorie pack" of cupcakes. They are soooooo tiny and sad looking. I burst into hysterical laughter when I opened the box. That alone was worth the $2.75.

Very funny!

To Cindy -- I'm doing low-carb too, and sometimes just smelling it is enough for me. Hubby thinks I've gone off the deep end when he catches me with a chocolate bar up my nose :)

We have these at the Domenicks by my house in Chicago. They are soooo good! It's so hard to slip them into my cart without either one of my kids noticing! These are mommy snacks!!
Do you want me to send you some?
here's my email, let me know.

Melissa - you are too kind! I must decline. I am being strong tonight. Good thing you did not catch me at a weak moment. I might have made you send me a truckload.

Have a great weekend!
