thought provoking

If you're interested in a new book, may I recommend Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. It's a true story about one man (Greg Mortenson) who, after a failed attempt at climbing K2, finds himself forever changed after witnessing the hardships of the lives he sees in Pakistan. He begins a personal quest to build schools for the children in remote Pakistani villages (mostly girls) as a way of promoting peace throughout regions that encourage Islamic extremism.

Though I found the writing itself to be almost too detailed, this is a fascinating story. It provides an encouraging, if not challenging, prescription of what can be done to promote peace and harmony in a post 9/11 world. And it helps explain why we should care about helping people beyond our borders.

Hi Meg! This sounds like an excellent book! I have a neighbor from India and she plans to return there one day and start a school for all girls. They have a class system.
Well, on a much more trivial note...IF you would like...I have tagged you for a 7 random weird facts/habits about yourself! If you want to join it is alot of fun laughing about ourselves! Just stop by my blog and read the details on how to play.
I have been trying to finish up my diningroom!

Mary

Sounds like a great book to pick up, I am doing so this weekend, thanks for the recommendation. I was thinking about you on my way in this morning. She may not be all that popular, but Jenny McCarthy was on the View I guess yesterday and she came out with the fact that her son was diagnosed with Autism and she has a book coming out in the fall Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey In Healing Autism. Thought I would let you know, might be a good read as it is directed towards mothers from what I understand. Hope you are well and Happy May!

Jill, thank you. I would never have imagined that I'd have something in common with Jenny. Thanks for letting me know about her upcoming book.
