cottage essentials
My Cottage Living magazine arrived on Saturday. Inside is an article on a style editor/cottager Heather Chadduck and her beautiful cottage in Birmingham. This is the link to the article on the Cottage Living website, and the photograph is from the website as well. Heather has a list of cottage essentials, and I thought it was worth reprinting here. I especially love her enthusiasm for beaded board, "you can never have too much". I don't have any in my cottage - yet - but I'd like to add it to my bathrooms when we remodel them. Maybe I could put it in my upstairs hallway as well? Or on the ceiling (like Heather?) Anyway, here's her top 10. (Oh, and P.S., isn't her vintage stove there fabulous? And her enormous chalkboard?)
1. Beaded Board
2. Burlap, Linen, and Ticking
3. Seagrass
4. Oversize Light Fixtures
5. Pillows
6. Fresh Flowers
7. Monograms
8.Ironstone
9. Numbers
10. Decoupaging

oh it's fabulous!
I have never seen the Cottage Living magazine before - it looks wonderful. I especially love the oversized kitchen chalk board. What a great idea.
hhhmmm, I still need a couple on the list. I better get crackin.
What is on your top 10 list? This is one of my favorite magazines. I am preparing for my move into my cottage this weekend, and one of the things that I am struggling with is downsizing my magazines. I have a hard time parting with any of my Cottage Living, Country Home and Country Living magazines. Truth be told Martha Stewart, Cooking Light and Real Simple too. This is not so simple, suggestions welcome!
Jilly, I love those magazines, too. I had a big stack of magazines for awhile and then finally went through them one time and cut out all the articles and pictures that I wanted to keep. I keep those in a folder. My all-time favorite inspiration house came from an article in Country Home a few years ago, and it's still at the top of the stack in the folder.
I like the things on this list of essentials. I like what Homedaisy had on her list from a few months back, too - some of hers appear here. I guess one thing I have to have in a cottage is a screen door and lots of windows that can be opened to let in fresh air. A real cottage has to have a certain amount of casualness about it, and nothing says casual like fresh air in the warmer months. Or even in the cooler months, for that matter.
I did get this issue yesterday and in addition to the stove, I ADORE the farmhouse sink... another thing added to the Wish List!
yes, love those farmhouse sinks!
Thanks for the visit to September Morn. and I also like the cottage look and decorating. I love it when I find a person that likes the same things that I do. I enjoyed your post and will be back......Sharon Kay
I got my latest copy the other day and have only had to time to look at the photos...thanks for the summary - great tips! I love that big black board!
oooh, i want more beadboard and a screen on my front door too. oh, and a farmhouse sink...meg, just when i thought i was content... :)
oh no, not ever content, not ever...well maybe for about 5 minutes after a project is complete, then back to more dreaming and scheming..
What is it about a huge blackboard that always is soooo inviting?? And in a kitchen! I love it :)
"oh no, not ever content, not ever...then back to more dreaming and scheming."
You must have a great husband.
Shabby - Oh, I know, very inviting. I wonder what she writes on her chalkboard? A menu? Conversation starters? (apart from the chalkboard itself?)
Robert - I do.
okay, how adorable are you two?
:)
I thought I responded to this last night but I don't see it, so...
I love the style of this kitchen! I have received this issue but I don't want to open it until I have time to sit and enjoy the whole thing so I'm saving it for next week. Thank you so much for the preview!
I loved that kitchen too. I had a blackboard in my kitchen growing up and I want one now! Love your blog-I just started one. Hope you have time to check it out.
Thanks for the visit to my blog this morning! have a great early start to the weekend.. :)
